Recent Subprogramme 5 news:
The rationale for Subprogramme 5
Through strong partnerships, tightly linked with the GCP vocation of delivery, Subprogramme 5 (SP5) is designed to bridge gaps that prevent advances in modern molecular genetics and genomics from being applied in agricultural research targeting resource-poor farmers (see GCP Delivery Strategy).
The challenge of building bridges is two-fold: the first gap is that between advanced research laboratories, usually in developed countries, and research programmes in the global South. The second major gap is between the expertise required to apply new knowledge, and existing capacity of researchers in developing countries. Bridging both gaps requires sustained capacity-building—a notion which, together with enabling delivery, is at the forefront of SP5.
In summation, SP5 establishes mechanisms by which GCP products can reach crop improvement programmes and farmers.
The links below provide more details on SP5’s approach to capacity-building and product delivery.
